UPDATE 3/24/18:

Georgie Boy returned to the specialist for his follow-up appointment and were happy to report that his ears look better! Not great, but better. All that hard work paid offand he even lost a couple of pounds. The veterinarian was able to see into his ear canals, which they couldnt do before. Some of the inflammation is down, but there is still much infection and other damage to the ears. Were consulting with a surgeon to determine the best course of long-term care for Georgieand looking for his forever family.

Bio:
Georgie Porgie pudding and pie, kissed the girls and made them cry
This little boy likes giving you kissesthey may be stinky, but they are sweet!

Georgie Boy is a happy, go-lucky 10 year-old neutered boy who walks around without a care in the world. Hes your typical Velcro pug, so expect him to help you cook dinner, wash clothes, work on the computerand use the bathroom. His foster siblings think hes a hoot!

Hes very mobile, exploring the back yard and loves to go for walks. One of his back knees is bad, with a luxating patella (grade 1). Hes receiving some joint supplements and working on losing some weight, which may help with the condition not worsening. Maybe due to this, Georgie doesnt try to get on the furniture. His foster mommy picks him up to sit with her, but hed rather be on the floor. He has multiple beds and blankets he snuggles on throughout the night.

One minor health issue is a right dry eye; currently getting OTC dry eye drops 4x a day. He is now getting use to the drops. His foster mommy holds him and tips him back just a bit, and the drop goes right in. When there is discharge around the eye, a baby wipe is used to cleanse the area.

Weve got Georgie Boy on a complete new diet with some healthier, high-end dog foods, probiotic supplements, raw foods to make sure his body has the nutrients needed to keep him healthy. Hes a finicky eater, but one of our pet partners

Woof Gang Bakery

provided some samples, and we were able to find a food that he would eat.

Whenever Georgie Boy looks at you, he has a big, goofy smile on his face. At night, he likes to sleep on the floor next to his foster parents bed, and sleeps the whole night through. He has a stuffed bunny that hes had since he was a puppy, which he sucks on every night. Over the years, his owners have had to re-stuff and sew it up. Theyve tried to substitute new or similar rabbits, but he only wants his bunny. He doesnt seem interested in playing with any other toys.

Georgie Boy can chat up a pretty good conversation on the flyonly thing is, he cant hear you talking back to him. Poor Georgie has had chronic ear infections for many years which have caused his ear canals to become blocked, and he can no longer hear. This causes him great discomfort and hes constantly shaking his head, with discharge oozing from his ears all day long. But he still likes to talk, and some say he might even be able to read lips

Unfortunately this ear blockage is a serious condition, and the reason his owners surrendered him to Pug Rescue of Florida; they could no longer afford to properly care for his condition. Over the next couple of months, Georgie Boy will be visiting several specialists to assess the damage and develop a treatment plan. One of the procedures that has been suggested for him is called TECA (Total Ear Canal Ablation)

a surgical procedure involving the removal of the middle ear. This form of surgery is a delicate procedure as the ears have a number of close facial nerves. This surgery is also expensive, and may cost up to $4,000.

Georgie Boys medical condition is complex. We are hoping for the best in finding a solution to avoid surgery, and the risks involved. In the meantime, his loving foster family is taking great care of him and getting him all of the medical attention he needs.

If you would like to donate to Georgies ongoing care, we would greatly appreciate it!

If you love me but can't adopt me please consider making a donation to rescue to help pay medical bills for not just me but my fellow foster brothers and sisters.
